Above is an image of the ceiling of the Lady Chapel that I found on the Internet; mine, below, is a little fuzzy. The overall shape is that of an elongated octogon, owing to the fact that the westernmost facets are stretched out into the area that forms the recto-choir.
Below is a picture taken from the recto-choir and it shows how some of the columns are thinner than others.
By grouping clusters of narrow columns, the architect created a very delicate profile to the structural members.
The thin dark column on the right is one of the smallest colums in this chapel.
I was really amazed that all of this ribbing could come together, especially since it wasn't symmetrical.
