Giù, giù, giù

When we reached the church, we asked some people where the path was. Their reply in Italian was "down, down, down." So we started down this little path.

Unlike the asphalt roads we travelled to get to this point, this was truly "a path."

We had a ways to go! (I have been debating with myself as to whether I should have written "we have a way to go." The debate on the internet is unclear. Since my favorite English professor is in the Wolfson Club Room watching a soccer, excuse me, football, game and since ways conveys more than simply way, and since we were still at a considerable elevation, I have decided to use "a ways.")

Mudslide: path nearly washed out!

Next, we came across this lovely little chapel in the woods.

You've heard of hairpin curves on mountain roads? Well, this path also had its share of hairpin curves.

Still a ways to go!
And then we saw this little building.
Down, down, down, some more!
Mudslides and roses
Getting closer but still pretty high up!
A ladder for olive picking.
The ridge of trees is getting higher, so we must be getting lower.
Bill could have been widowed at this point, but I was determined not to break anything on this trek!
We did not have much confidence in this sign, but we decided to follow it anyway.

This is the entrance to the lovely backyard at la Casa di Limone.
And this is how they get your luggage to la Casa di Limoni!
Bill is patiently awaiting me (and resting against the wall).
Terraces: how the farmers cultivate this beautiful, but unforgiving, land.
Ooh, really close now!
Well, we made it safely back to Monterosso. Our little trip took only about four hours! Whew!
