A needle in a haystack

While Bill found a nearby church to explore, I remained outside in the piazza. The first picture is a little under-exposed, a side-effect of the flat light due to the cloud cover. I was admiring the stonework when suddenly, the doorway with its greenish rocks and reddish stucco was familiar to me.

I opened the file on my iPhone where I had saved my painting. Lo and behold, I had found the original!

This painting was copied from a photograph in Gourmet, probably one of the 1991 issues. I think I painted it in 1992, twenty years ago! I am amazed how the buildings have not changed colors over the years! I am so happy to have found the spot!
