The mountainside is planted with vinyards.
If you look in the opposite direction, you can find cacti and sea views. This is one of my favorite pictures taken by Bill.
I took the same picture with my camera, but the background appears much sharper.
I think these look like little fingers in gloves.
The next picture is looking east toward Manarola.
Unlike the other four towns, Corniglia is situated above sea level. You can see the train tracks below. We walked up a winding road to get to the town. This man hiked up the steps, a more direct, but strenuous, route. A third alternative is to take the green bus, but it was crowded, and we would have missed a lot of the scenery.
And this is the sign that greeted the tired man when he reached the top!
You can work up an appetite when you climb these hills/mountains. We decided to reward ourselves with some gelato.
Mandarin orange and lemon...yummy!
Still amazed at the clarity of the water.
Isn't this a great shot of the gull? Bill took this at about the same time he took the picture of the Billy Boat with the topless sunbather.
And now it's time to start our descent down. It is actually harder than it looks because the treads are wider than one's natural gait.
We had to get all the way down there!
OK, here I go!
When we got back to Monterosso, we donned our swimming gear. As we sat on our beach blankets talking to a couple from Canada, we noticed a plastic bag being washed ashore. On closer inspection, it turned out to be a man-0-war or jellyfish. The waters are beautiful, but one should swim with a friend and have a bottle of vodka handy to douse on the site of a sting.
