Reconstruction

The building industry in Italy, as in the U.S., has been depressed. Now while the reason for the flurry of construction in Cinque Terre, particularly in Vernazza, is horrific, it was gratifying to see that there was a lot of reconstruction underway.

I was a little surprised to find that the rusticated stonework was machine-honed. Below, that's a typical broom in Italy.

This appears to be a significant runoff under construction for mountain waters so that the next time there are torrential rains, water and mud don't have to find their to the sea way through the main street in town.
