Our hotel was located in New Town which, by American standards, isn't really all that new. The townhouses built along the valley are Neoclassical while those farther out are Victorian. Most of the buildings are built of sandstone and because of the softness of the stone they are not frequently sandblasted. The monument above is set above the valley with a nice park pictured below.

Here's a bouncy house. Turns out that I wasn't the only one who wanted to try this out--so did Lamarise--but neither one of us dared to do it.
This is the Sir Walter Scott Monument that was situated across the street from our hotel. One morning we were lucky enough to get the table located in the rounded corner of the building.

This is the Parish Church of St. Andrew and St. George built in the 18th century.
On either side of the transverse axis is a rounded apse-like wing, one of which is reflected in the modern building below.

This picture was taken from the gate post. Nowadays it seems the building is either used as a posh club or as a toney hotel.
