Bridges

I suppose I developed an appreciation for bridges while I was doing work on train stations--the engineering of the spans of train sheds being somewhat similar to that of bridges. The above picture is of the Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge. Thanks to Google I learned that Zakim was a civil rights activist in Boston who died of cancer. The bridge is part of the Big Dig.

On our ferry ride we went under the huge bridge below. I don't know the name of it but it looks like an Erector set bridge to me!

In the category of jobs I would never do is that of bridge construction person. Yikes! Can you imagine having to rely on boats not to make wakes to ensure your safety?
