Bells for Roberta

Today is the last day that my dear friend, Roberta, must undergo chemotherapy. Mary, her younger sister, will be at her side for the procedure that takes the better part of an afternoon. Normally, I join Roberta and Mary at the HOG (Highland Oncology Group) spa but for obvious reasons I will be missing today’s celebration. You see, when a person finishes a round of chemo, he or she gets to ring a bell and everybody claps. So, Roberta, I am thinking of you and Mary today, wishing I were there to party with both of you. I will imagine you ringing the bell and will see in my mind the entire room applaud your cheerful determination through the last few months. Meanwhile, all of the bells in Roma today will be your bells. Brava, Roberta!
